Following these foot-steps, few young doctors decided to serve the society with good medical facilities at an affordable cost. In 1988, these ambitious doctors came together to establish a charitable organization called Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Vaidyakiya Pratishtan’s to bring social change through healthcare. They started Dr. Hedgewar Rugnalaya in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad then) in 1989 and since then this organization has been doing many social works along with good patient care. Currently the hospital is of 600 beds and aroud 35 lakhs patients has been treated so far. The hospital has gained the trust and love of the common and poor people of Marathwada. Hundreds of poor families have been helped to live with self-respect.
“SEVANKUR’ – The mission to create next generation of socially conscious dedicated doctors
The initiative ‘Sevankur’ was started since last 11 years to give this social awareness to the students who are starting their medical education. Doctors from Dr. Hedgewar Rugnalaya used to meet regularly to medical students, have brain storming sessions about social challenges in health care and our role to overcome these challenges. They also used to arrange different workshops with eminent social leaders to create social awareness among all these aspirant doctors.
Inspired by this mission few young expert doctors started the initiative ‘Shri Guruji Rugnalaya’ in 2008 in Nashik with a lifelong commitment. They were determined to work as a service rather than purely for profit. On June 3, 2013, the hospital was shifted to a new fully equipped building. Due to the tireless efforts of these young doctors, a friendly system was created that worked for the common man who was suffering from many types of diseases and then due to the huge cost of treatment. This was the beginning of efforts to improve the health of the society, starting from the health of the individual, and reaching the far-flung deprived communities….
